Business Honors Trips

Business Honors loves to travel!  Each year, we take Business Honors students away from College Station to experience firsthand some of the other great cities in the nation.  On these annual trips, students visit corporate headquarters and graduate schools, and experience the culture, history, sights, and sounds of an exciting U.S. city.

In addition to trips outside state lines, we also travel to closer destinations within Texas.  We have some favorites such as the Bluebell Creameries in Brenham, defense technology company Raytheon in McKinney, and the sports operations at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Upcoming Trip (Fall 2009):  Boston

Preliminary planning has the group visiting Cameron, Samuel Adams Brewing Company, Harvard, and MIT.  In addition, we will enjoy the history and culture of the area.

Washington, D.C. (Fall 2008)

Washington D.C.A group of 35 students and staff traveled to D.C. in the fall of 2008.  We toured the Library of Congress, the White House, the CIA, the Pentagon, and visited with Congressman Chet Edwards’ staff at the U.S. Congress building.  While at the Pentagon, the students met with Secretary of Defense and former Texas A&M President, Robert Gates, and enjoyed lunch in his private dining room.  We went on a beautiful “Washington After Dark Tour” to view the monuments and enjoyed a performance by The Capitol Steps. On the last two days, the students were free to do what they wanted.  Some visited the Holocaust Museum, others went to the Smithsonian or The Mall.  A few visited graduate programs at schools in the area.

Chicago (Fall 2007)

Office Max invited us to visit Chicago and we couldn’t refuse!  They arranged a visit with DDB, a worldwide advertising firm.  We met the creative team that does some of the Bud Light commercials and learned that they work very hard and seriously to be so funny.  We spent an afternoon with Office Max and learned about what they do to position themselves in the market.  We even got to meet the CEO!  We certainly enjoyed the culture of Chicago; we saw a performance by Blue Man Group, ate Chicago style pizza, watched fireworks over Lake Michigan, and toured the wonderful parks in the city.

Detroit (Fall 2006)

DSCN2199The Ford Foundation was a major donor and sponsored a group of students to visit.  The group met with Ford engineers and executives before going on a tour of the factory.  They then spent the afternoon at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.  This is truly one of the most interesting museums in America.  Dinner at Greektown was quite an experience as was the Motown Museum and the Detroit Institute of Arts.  By the way, did we mention that Game One of the World Series happened while we were there?  It added such a fun, festive atmosphere to our trip.

San Francisco (Spring 2005)

The city by the bay was warm and sunny for a visit in February.  The group visited Levi Strauss and Wells Fargo’s headquarters and training facility.  Then they set out to see the city; they walked up Lombard Street, through Chinatown, up Telegraph Hill, across the Golden Gate Bridge, and around the harbor.  They took a boat to Alcatraz, ate Ghirardelli chocolates, and rode the cable cars.

Las Vegas (Spring 2004)

In Las Vegas, students had the opportunity to visit with Deloitte and Touche, the largest auditing firm in Nevada.  They learned about many of the behind-the-scenes auditing activities that occur in the gaming industry and learned quite a bit about casino operations.  They also visited Hoover Dam and found it quite impressive.  They went to shows and most of them spent an evening looking at every casino along the strip and watching the fountain at the Bellagio.
