Application FAQs

Incoming Freshmen

When will applications be available?

August 1st.  There is no separate application for Business Honors.  Simply indicate that you would like to be considered for Business Honors on the ApplyTexas Application.

When are applications due?

The ApplyTexas application is due to the university by January 15th.  If you did not indicate that you wanted to be considered for Business Honors on the ApplyTexas app, you have until February 1 to notify us that you would like to be considered.  See the Incoming Freshmen information page for complete instructions.

Is there a benefit to applying early?

Admissions will be on a rolling basis, so priority is given to applications submitted early in the application process.

Do you accept late applications?

No.  Your ApplyTexas application must be submitted by January 15, 2010. You must notify us of your interest in being considered for Business Honors (if you did not do so on your ApplyTexas application) by February 1, 2010.

How will I know if you’ve received my application?

We send a confirmation email to you when we have received and processed your application.

When will I find out if I was selected?

We will begin reviewing applications in November and will notify you once we have reached a final decision.  Some applicants will be placed in a final review pool so, even though their application was received early, they may not hear from us until late in the process.  All decision letters will be mailed by March 1st.

Who should write my letter of recommendation?

The person writing your letter of recommendation should be a teacher who knows you well. You want your letter of recommendation to tell the reviewers something the rest of your application does not.

I sent my transcript to the Office of Admissions. Does Business Honors need one?

No.  The Office of Admissions will share your transcript with us.

I am eligible for University Honors. Do I still need to apply to BH?

Yes.  University Honors and Business Honors are separate programs. In order to be selected for Business Honors you must specify that you want to be considered for Business Honors on your ApplyTexas application.  If you didn’t indicate this on your ApplyTexas application, please see the instructions on the Incoming Freshman page.

My SAT (and/or ACT) scores were sent to the university. Do I need to send Business Honors a copy of those scores?

No, we do not need a separate copy of your SAT or ACT scores.

Is it okay to send a picture, resume, newspaper articles about myself, etc. to your office?

We do not review extra materials that were not explicitly requested in the application instructions.

I would like to visit the Business Honors staff and/or Mays Business School.  Who do I contact?

Visits can be set up through the Aggieland Visitor Center stating that you want to visit Mays Business School.  You can also email our staff at honors@mays.tamu.edu to set up a visit/tour of our facilities.

If you have more questions, contact the Business Honors staff at honors@mays.tamu.edu.

Current Students

When will the application be available?

In early December. The application for current students is found on our website but needs to be printed out and brought or delivered to our office at 242 Wehner.

When are applications due?

5 p.m., February 5, 2010.

What is required to apply?

There is a basic application plus an essay, your resume, and a letter of recommendation.

What should be on my resume?

Our primary focus of interest is the activities you were involved in here at Texas A&M.  You may include activities and employment from high school but should pick only a few to highlight and focus on your college activities. Resumes are limited to one page.

A resume workshop will be held in January to help you prepare your resume.  You are not required to attend the workshop, but it is recommended.

Who should write my letter of recommendation?

The person writing your letter of recommendation should be a teacher or professor who knows you well. You want your letter of recommendation to tell the reviewers something the rest of your application does not. The title of the person writing the letter isn’t important; it’s the quality of the content in the letter. Since many freshmen only had large classes during their first semester, you may not know any college professors well. For this letter, a high school teacher is acceptable.

If you have more questions, contact the Business Honors staff at honors2@mays.tamu.edu.
